Bro-est Bros You Knows – Ep. 14 – Abroham Lincoln!

zid78ob

Here at the Bro-est Bros You Knows, we love to follow bro-litical news. We are, after all, a couple of brah-litics majors from the University of Design. That is why it cheeses us off that the candidates for the next election are so underwhelming. The Bro-est Bros try to inspire aspiring presidential candidates by paying broetic tribute to one of the most bro presidents ever, Abroham Lincoln.

The fantasy guru’s fantasy is in the house to recap week 3 fantasy football and brovide some tips to absolutely crush it week 4. BBYK also reviews the new NBA 2k16 video game, a Spike Lee joint! For those of you that just skip down to the end of the article on IGN to see the score:

Sore throat

What is a girl to do when she has a sore throat, desperately needs a hot toddy, does not like whiskey, and does not have lemon juice?

  1. Borrow some of your roommate’s raspberry vodka
  2. Add honey
  3. Add lime juice
  4. Heat in microwave
  5. Enjoy!

There are some …

There are some songs that immediately put me in a specific time and place. I was grocery shopping today and Nena’s “99 Luftballoons” followed some generic acoustic guitar.

Freshman/Sophomore year of high school, driving around in the VaJetta, sunroof open and windows down, shooting tapioca balls from our bubble tea out at pedestrians.

Bonsai!!

Zanahoria3’s cousin came to visit the other day (he recently moved to Florida), and he explained that he was in town to save the bonsai trees. There is no lock on their enclosure at the DC arboretum, so there is a massive security system in place to keep them safe. He was working on the coding for the security system.

He noted that some of the pottery in the exhibit is actually more expensive than the bonsai trees. Another piece of intel from him – the bonsai trees need to have their roots trimmed periodically so they stay small, just as the branches are trimmed.

They have to take all the dirt out of the roots, and then they trim them carefully. Some of the bonsai trees are almost 400 years old. This process has occurred regularly for almost 400 years. That means that in the 1600s, some guy was emptying out the dirt from these bonsai trees and trimming them carefully.

I had been to the bonsai exhibit a long time ago with my family… And we went again today!

And if you want a bonsai of your very own, and you need one immediately, they sell them at the social Safeway in Georgetown for $99.99. Otherwise, they’re cheaper online.

While at the arboretum, we also visited the herb garden… where they had at least four rosemary bushes. We used to have a gargantuan rosemary bush right outside our door in Texas. It was amazing, and we would put whole branches of rosemary in the pot when we cooked pasta.

So if you want the ultimate Rosemary/Bonsai experience, here you go –

Rosemary Bonsai, ProFlowers, $47.99 (plus shipping)

What to do in a hurricane

So we are currently experiencing somewhat of a hurricane in DC… And if all you have in your kitchen is cream of coconut and gin, never fear!  The combination of the two make for a great drink.  Just mix them up with some ice in the blender.

If you happen to have a spare coconut, you can:

  1. Drill three holes in the top (use a hammer and screwdriver).
  2. Empty out the juice.*
  3. Crush the rest of the coconut (use a hammer).**
  4. Separate the coconut meat from the shell (use a spoon and peel it like an avocado).
  5. Stick some of the coconut meat in the blender with the gin, ice, and cream of coconut.

Many thanks to the Embassy of the Bahamas for providing the idea for this recipe!

*Save this for later.  You can mix it with rum, ice, and sugar.
**Do not ask your husband for help with Step 3, especially if he is watching a UFC fight and football at the same time.
