Your Friday Jam: Pitchers & Catchers Reporting for Duty!

Hokay, so dis is the erf.

It’s a pretty sweet erf.

Pitchers and catchers reported for spring training duty today (at least in Surprise, Arizona, spring training home of the 2015 World Series Champion Texas Rangers), so today’s Friday Jam will obviously have a baseball theme to it.  If you don’t like baseball, move back to Russia you stinkin’ commie.

I thought long and hard about what song to use today.  This being America, countless musicians, from Simon & Garfunkle to Kanye West, have recognized the place that baseball has in our hearts and used the national pastime as inspiration in their craft.  The undisputed greatest baseball song of all time (if you don’t count “Take Me Out to the Ballgame”) is John Fogerty’s “Centerfield”, but I used that in a Friday Jam last spring, so I had to do something different this time around.  Therefore, this weekend I’m going with a piece that is very dear to my heart.

All throughout my childhood, the theme from The Natural was played at Texas Rangers games whenever the Rangers launched a home run, and to this day I cannot help but feel happy when I hear it.  To me, it perfectly encapsulates the epic drama of a sport where every at-bat is its own mini-game – the dramatic build up to the pitch, everyone holding their breath as the ball sails towards the outfield, and the sparks showering the field as Roy Hobbs rounds the bases.

So this Friday, as MLP players and shaking off the winter rust in warm climates of Arizona and Florida, enjoy the theme from The Natural and pray that the games start soon.

Spring is coming

Spring is coming

When it gets warmer, this is one way I plan to wear the blue pencil skirt I made.  I’ll wear nude pumps, a white blouse, and some fun jewelry.  Very simple, fresh, and easy.

If you don’t feel like making one or getting an Armani skirt, this Forever 21 lace skirt and this ASOS lace skirt are similar.

Blue pencil skirt – Sewing a zipper

photo-3photo-4

Today I made a baby blue pencil skirt – an achievement because it’s the first time I sewed a zipper.  I made it by tracing another pencil skirt, and then trying it on and modifying it before I sewed the hem on the top and bottom.

I used this video from Professor Pincushion for the zipper:

And I used this video for the kick pleat, with a modification:

My modification was that I didn’t sew the two L-shaped pieces together at the end – instead, I kind of hemmed them each on the inside, and only sewed the top together.  That way, it will be easier to walk.

Fact – You don’t have to be lonely… at Farmer’sOnly.com

untitled

Here at Face The Facts, we’ve just received confirmation from Captain Dan that you don’t actually have to be a farmer to join that site. Have fun on Valentine’s Day with Bobbi-Jo, she sounds like she is quite… strong. I am glad that Captain Dan is getting out there, he was nearing the point of what many would call “hopelessly single.” In fact, there are a lot of people out there that will feel, especially on Valentine’s Day, that they are “hopelessly single.” Let me give each and every one of you an internet BroHug and assure that you most definitely are not.

I have a friend (you see how I avoided @klar21‘s wife’s best friend… wait) that at one point aspired to be that crazy cat lady that knits craft-stuff and scares children. She found herself an awesome hockey loving bro named… Brawn, and she is as happy as I have ever seen her. This isn’t a “oh, you will find someone soon” kind of thing. It is a “in a world where people number in the billions, there is a ridiculously high mathematical probability that, when armed with the science of human biology, creates a near virtual certainty that if you are in fact seeking love, love will find you” thing.

That’s not even the good part. For everyone out there that is single, looking for somebody… you have one of the greatest things in all of God’s infinite universe to look forward to. You get to fall in love for the first time. I have been in a relationship with my wife, going on ten years now, and I love her the most. A decade strong, I am still learning and growing, striving every day to be a better husband and partner for my wife. I look forward to our future together, but I will never forget the first time I met her.

I was in my dorm room showing off my awesome fish tank (so I wasn’t exactly “Kris Humphries” cool, but I was trying to be “Michael Humphries” cool anyways) to my future wife and a prospective student she was showing around. Late night’s memorizing the presidents for Am. Civ., getting introduced to Eddie Izzard and “bread guns,” listening to The General on loop, long walks around campus, and drinking way too much coffee… meeting my wife and falling in love with her was one of the best things I have ever had the privilege to experience. So to the single people out there, rejoice! Fact, DC has the highest concentration of singles out of all the major cities in America. Go out there and meet somebody… you might be meeting the best thing that can ever happen to you.

Happy Valentine’s Day from Vivid Karet!

Face The Facts – Episode 22: Your Friday Jam

Fact – Carry Your Throne was produced and recorded on site at an actual castle cathedral in France.

This weekend’s jam comes from Jonathan “Jon” Bellion, an American song-writer/producer/rapper born and raised in Long Island, New York.  He has been making music since 2011, and while he has hasn’t truly reached a mainstream audience, his early success has earned him a bit of recognition within the industry from other big name artists. He collaborated with Eminem on his 2014 hit song The Monster, and he produced Trumpets by Jason Derulo. If you haven’t heard of him yet… you’re welcome.

Today, you’re getting my personal favorite track off of Bellion’s latest album, The Definiton.  The war march/hip hop sound reverberating from this song, coupled with a stirring chorus, is hauntingly beautiful.  Bellion seems to hearken back to the Medieval singer song writers of the Dark Ages and seems to encapsulate the sound of Westeros in this number.  Such natural talent is truly a breath of fresh air during this time of over-processed popular “music”.

Appropriately titled “Carry Your Throne,” the lyrics (along with the cinematic visuals of the music video) capture a fight-or-flight theme, with Bellion going to war for the love of his life. This song sounds like it could be a backtrack to an epic battle, and the scenes in the video look straight out of Game of Thrones. Here is the video for you to check out yourself:

Fact – People that read Vivid Karet think water-chest nuts taste weird.

That could just be me, though. So I don’t always make music recommendation posts, but when I do it is for an artist that I feel deserves more recognition. It may also be done with tongue firmly in cheek. Props to @zanahoria3 for introducing me to this artist. FTF hopes you use this epic jam as part of the soundtrack to your epic weekend. I will now relinquish the “Friday Jam” title back to the rightful owner, the OG white boy rap connoisseur, @klar21.

We are going to be hitting you up with a new Bro-est Bros You Knows soon, so stay tuned for that. There may be the grand return of the Fashion Turkey! I am still trying to get my year end FTF together, so that will be posted at some point. Until next time, when in doubt… Face The Facts!
